Babil Khan, the son of the late Irrfan Khan, made his Bollywood debut in 2022 with Anvita Dutt’s film Qala. Sutapa Sikdar, Irrfan’s wife, recently opened up about the pressure Babil faces due to the constant comparisons with his iconic father.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sutapa shared her thoughts on the matter. She said, "Babil pe bahut zyada pressure hai aur mujhe yeh thik nahin lagta. (There is a lot of pressure on Babil and I don’t think it is okay). This pressure should not be there, Irrfan never had that pressure and when you don’t put any pressure on yourself, your individuality comes out.”
Sutapa said that the cause of concern wasn’t just work-related but also the fact that Babil lost his father at a young age. Babil was just 22 when Irrfan passed away. Irrfan passed away in 2020 after a long battle with cancer and Babil.
Sutapa also compared Babil’s situation to what Abhishek Bachchan must have experienced, as he too has been continually compared to his legendary father, Amitabh Bachchan. She mentioned that despite Abhishek's remarkable performance in I Want to Talk, the ongoing comparisons with Amitabh often work against him. "I feel Babil is going through a similar ordeal. I just hope he overcomes it soon," she continued.
Babil Khan has also appeared in the web series The Railway Men and The Night Plan. Looking ahead, he is set to star in The Umesh Chronicles, a project directed by Shoojit Sircar.
