Anjini Dhawan, niece of actor Varun Dhawan, recently weighed in on the backlash faced by star kids Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor following the release of their debut film Naadaniyan.
In a candid interview with Bollywood Bubble, Anjini addressed the ongoing debate around nepotism and shared her perspective on dealing with trolling in the industry. Reflecting on the criticism that Naadaniyan and its lead actors have been subjected to, she admitted that such negativity can often feel intense and personal.
However, she emphasized that the performance or outcome of a film is not the responsibility of a single actor, but the result of a collaborative effort from the entire team involved.
She said, “I mean, it becomes intense, no matter what. It becomes personal, also intense, but I don’t think the fate of a film is in the hands of an actor. I think there are a lot of factors that contribute to a film. I think it’s a very collaborative thing, and it’s a lot of people coming together to make a film. So I don’t think the fate of a film solely lies in an actor’s hands.”
Netflix's romantic comedy Nadaaniyan, which premiered on March 7, 2025, with Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor in lead roles, has stirred up a fresh wave of conversation around nepotism in Bollywood.
Backed by Karan Johar, the film has faced mixed reactions—while some critics have taken aim at its execution and questioned the acting chops of the star kids, others have stepped in to defend their performances and the film’s storyline. With polarised opinions flooding social media, Nadaaniyan has once again thrown the spotlight on the long-standing debate about privilege and opportunity in the Hindi film industry.
Meanwhile, Anjini was recently seen in Salman Khan starrer Sikandar, released on march 30. She made her Bollywood debut in Binny and Family last year.
