Mom 2: Khushi Kapoor and Karishma Tanna to star in sequel to Sridevi's iconic film

Actors Khushi Kapoor and Karishma Tanna are all set to star in the eagerly awaited follow-up to the critically acclaimed Sridevi film Mom. The upcoming film will be inspired by the spirit of the 2017 National Award-winning movie.

According to Pinkvilla, Mom 2 will tell a new story rather than be a straight sequel to the first movie. The goal of the movie is to combine high-stakes drama with suspense. It will continue to highlight strong female leads and the fight for justice in challenging circumstances. The film is anticipated to produce a modern tale focused on justice and resiliency.

By adding new characters and taking a contemporary approach to its underlying themes, the movie will seek to further the legacy of the first one.

A source told the outlet, “Mom 2 is emotionally layered and a modern, dynamic film, and Karishma Tanna fits well to enhance to film’s theme. Her intense emotional depth aligns with Khushi Kapoor’s refreshing energy, and that chemistry is what makes them a right pair.”

Boney Kapoor, who produced the original Mom, will serve as the producer of the sequel as well. Girish Kohli, who wrote the script for the first movie as well as for Kesari and HIT: The First Case, will be directing.

Boney had previously hinted at his daughter Khushi's involvement in the project at the Jaipur-hosted 2025 IIFA Awards.

Meanwhile, Khushi made her acting debut with the Netflix film The Archies. She was later seen in Loveyapa and Naadaniyan.

Meanwhile, Karishma was last seen in the 2021 film Lahore Confidential. The actress’ credits also include films like Suraj Par Mangal Bhari and Sanju.

Mom (2017) also stars Sajal Aly, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Akshaye Khanna, among others, in the key roles. The film revolves around a furious mother who sets out to destroy the lives of the four perpetrators who walked away free after her daughter is sexually assaulted at a party.
