Sridevi’s death anniversary today brings back the ache of a loss that still feels unreal. Bollywood icon Sridevi died in Dubai in February 2018 while she was in the city to attend a family wedding. The legendary actor ruled Indian cinema across decades and languages. Even years later, the questions, the silence, and the shock around her final hours continue to linger. As fans remember her unmatched screen magic, the day is also a reminder of how abruptly a shining life can end.
What happened in her last hours, as per reports
According to a report by Khaleej Times, producer Boney Kapoor had briefly returned to India and then flew back to Dubai on Saturday evening to surprise Sridevi at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel. The same report says he reached her room around 5.30 pm, woke her up, and the two spoke for about 15 minutes before deciding to go for dinner.
The report further states that Sridevi then went into the washroom to freshen up. When she did not respond for about 15 minutes, Boney reportedly knocked, got no reply, and forced the door open. He allegedly found her lying motionless in a bathtub filled with water.
Khaleej Times, quoting a source, reported that Boney tried to revive her, and when he could not, he called a friend and later informed the police around 9 pm. She was then taken to Rashid Hospital, where she was declared “brought dead,” as multiple reports stated at the time.
What Dubai Police and the post-mortem said
After the post-mortem analysis, Dubai Police stated that Sridevi’s death occurred due to drowning, and the case was subsequently transferred to the Dubai Public Prosecution for routine legal procedure in such cases.
Boney Kapoor’s remarks in later interviews
Years later, Boney Kapoor publicly addressed the lingering rumours around Sridevi’s passing. In an interview quoted by NDTV, he said, “It was not a natural death, it was an accidental death,” and spoke about being investigated before getting a clean chit.
More recently, he has also spoken about the personal loss, telling Zoom in a clip reported by Times of India: “Till today, I miss her, every second, every day, every minute.”
