In Bollywood and entertainment industry, star kids often grow up surrounded by fame, cameras, and big expectations. Many also believe that if your father or relative is a famous actor, success in films or projects is almost guaranteed. But the Bollywood film industry works in a different way. In the end, it is the audience that decides who should become a star and who has less potential to work in the industry. One such example is Puru Raaj Kumar, the son of legendary actor Raaj Kumar, who had to struggel hard and try his best to build a successful acting career despite his famous background.
Veteran actor Raaj Kumar was one of the most successful actors in Hindi cinema. He was always known for his powerful dialogue delivery and strong on- screen performances. For decades, he won the hearts of the audiences with films like Pakeezah, Waqt, and Saudagar. His unique voice and unique style made him unforgettable and when his son Puru Raaj Kumar decided to make his debut Bollywood, expectations were very high.
Puru Raaj Kumar made his Bollywood debut in 1996 with the film Bal Bramhachari opposite actress Karisma Kapoor. The film was launched on a grand scale and everyone believed it would make him the next big star like his father. However, the movie did not perform well at the box office and failed to win the hearts. Instead of giving Puru's career a strong start, the film’s failure on the box office made things difficult for the young actor.
After his debut film failed at the box office, Puru struggled to search important roles for several years in the industry. Later, he featured in a negative role in the film Humraaz and also played pivotal roles in films like Mission Kashmir, LOC Kargil, Umrao Jaan, and Jaago. Some of these movies did well but not best, but Puru was later seen in supporting role or negative characters rather than as a leading actor of the film.
Even after being part of several films, Puru Raaj Kumar could not deliver a big superhit that would make him as a successful star of the decade. Gradually, film offers became fewer for Puru and he later stepped away from the mainstream Bollywood scene.
Eventually, Puru Raaj Kumar decided to stay away from acting and focused on his business and personal ventures. Unlike many star kids who continue trying to stay in the film industry, he chose a quieter life away from the spotlight.
When Puru Raaj Kumar was just 23 and not yet an actor, he was arrested in a drunk driving case after he allegedly ran over eight people sleeping on a pavement in Mumbai’s Bandra. Three people died in that accident as per reports. A court case followed where Puru was charged with drunk driving. However, later the star kid was revealed after the parties reached an out-of-court settlement, as per a report in Mid-Day.
