On March 14 of this year, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan celebrated his 60th birthday with loved ones.
The actor revealed in a recent interview that his daughter Ira Khan and his ex-wife Reena Dutta lovingly planned the event. Many of his loved ones were present at the private event, but ironically, Aamir doesn't recall much of it.
Despite having quit alcohol some time ago and now only indulging in occasional pipe smoking, Aamir confessed that he gave in to the pressure to have a drink during the celebration.
He told Mashable India, “Yaar bohot interesting hua. Ira, Reena, everyone organised a birthday party for me on my 60th. They invited all my loved ones. It was a memorable day, like all the memories will stay with me,” he began, adding that he hardly drinks now but made an exception at everyone’s insistence. “Toh maine kaha theek hai. Aur kyunki mujhe aadat nahi hai, bohot jaldi chadh gayi mujhe.”
According to Aamir, the party began around 7 p.m., and within two hours, the alcohol had taken full effect. “We started at around 7 pm, and by 9 pm, I knew that I was flying,” he said with a laugh. What followed was a complete blackout, meaning that despite the event being deeply meaningful, Aamir recalls none of it.
“60th birthday hai, sab log encourage bhi kar rahe the toh hum log achhe mood mein the… woh memorable tha lekin mujhe memory koi,” he shared, noting that while the night was evidently unforgettable for those around him, he can only relive it through videos and photos. “I have no memory of that day (laughs),” he admitted.
In December 2024, Aamir had opened up in a conversation with Nana Patekar about his decision to stop drinking, citing a tendency to overindulge as his primary reason. “I smoke a pipe. Now I have quit drinking but at one point, I used to drink. And when I used to drink, I would drink all night,” he confessed. Aamir also admitted that while he maintains great discipline when it comes to work, he struggles to maintain the same in his personal life, describing himself as an “extremist”.
Though his 60th birthday celebration may have been a blur for Aamir, the warmth and affection that filled the evening clearly left a lasting impression — if not in his memory, then certainly in the hearts of those who attended.
On the work front, Aamir Khan is curently gearing up for the spiritual sequel of Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par, which also stars Genelia Deshmukh.
