Vidisha is one of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies of Madhya Pradesh.
Lok Sabha polls 2024 on May 7, marks a pivotal moment for BJP stalwart Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Congress contender Pratap Bhanu Sharma as voters determine their political futures. This election in the constituency has garnered heightened interest, particularly due to the participation of the ex-Chief Minister, fondly referred to as Mamaji, who has chosen to contest from his former stronghold following his tenure as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Shivraj Singh Chouhan secured victory in the constituency for five consecutive terms, starting from 1991. He then resigned as a Member of Parliament to assume the role of Chief Minister of the state. On the other hand, Pratap Bhanu Sharma emerged victorious in the elections held in 1980 and 1984.
Ramakant Bhargava, representing the BJP, currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Vidisha. He clinched victory in the Vidisha constituency during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, securing 853,022 votes. His closest rival, Shailendra Rameshchandra Patel of the INC, garnered 349,938 votes in the same contest.

In the 2014 Vidisha Lok Sabha election, Sushma Swaraj of the BJP emerged victorious with 714,348 votes. The runner-up candidate was Lakshman Singh of the INC, who garnered 303,650 votes. The total number of registered voters in Vidisha in 2014 stood at 1,073,781.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan is making a comeback to his political stronghold of Vidisha after nearly two decades. Widely depicted as a leader who relinquished the Chief Ministerial post despite securing a significant victory, Chouhan's connection with Vidisha runs deep. Over the years, Chouhan has established a formidable presence in Vidisha, transcending party lines and earning the trust of the electorate.
Contrastingly, Pratap Bhanu Sharma secured victories in the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency in 1980 and 1984. However, it has been nearly four decades since the leader tasted electoral success in the constituency. The lack of recent electoral triumphs for Sharma underscores the uphill battle faced by the Congress in Vidisha, especially when pitted against the BJP's formidable presence and organizational strength.
Here are the candidates in the fray
