Lok Sabha election results: Smriti Irani to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union ministers who lost

Smriti Irani lost to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma. Meanwhile, in Thiruvananthapuram, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar lost to Shashi Tharoor of the Congress.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar lost to Shashi Tharoor of the Congress by over 16,077 votes.

While many like Nitin Gadkari, Anurag Thakur, and Amit Shah won the Lok Sabha polls, many big names in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s council of ministers lost the fight, including Smriti Irani, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and Arjun Munda.

The Election Commission of India has announced the results for all Lok Sabha constituencies. The BJP secured 240 out of 543 seats, while the Congress won 99 seats.

Smriti Irani, who had won the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh by defeating Rahul Gandhi in 2019, lost to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma.  Meanwhile, in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar lost to Shashi Tharoor of the Congress by over 16,077 votes.

Other Union Ministers who lost

Mohanlalganj: Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore lost to Samajwadi Party candidate RK Chaudhary.

Chandauli: Union Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey lost to SP's Birendra Singh by a margin of 21,565 votes. Samajwadi Party leader Birendra Singh received 474,476 votes.

Lakhimpur Kheri: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, whose son was arrested in connection with the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri in October 2021, lost to the Samajwadi Party's Utkarsh Verma.

Bankura: Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar was defeated by Trinamool Congress candidate Arup Chakraborty.

Khunti: Union Tribal Affairs Minister and sitting MP Arjun Munda lost to Congress candidate Kalicharan Munda by 149,675 votes.

Bidar: Union Minister Bhagwanth Khuba was defeated in Bidar by Karnataka Minister Eshwar Khandre's son Sagar Khandre.

Barmer: Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Kailash Choudhary was defeated by Ummeda Ram Beniwal.

Nilgiris: Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying L Murugan lost to DMK's A Raja.

Cooch Behar: BJP's North Bengal face and Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik lost to TMC's Jagadish Chandra Basunia.

Muzaffarnagar: Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan lost to Samajwadi Party's Harendra Singh Malik by a margin of over 24,000 votes.
