Industrial production in Russia rose by 1.8% annually in May of 2025, picking up from the 1.5% increase in the previous month and firmly above market expectations of a softer 0.8% growth. Industrial growth was solely supported by manufacturing, which expanded by 4%. In turn, output contracted for mining (-1.1%) amid lower global prices for minerals and softer demand from China, Russia's main trading partner since 2022. Output was also lower for utilities (-0.2%) and the distribution of water (-1.6%).
