Producer prices in Italy fell by 3.3 percent from the prior month in October of 2022, the sharpest decline on record and swinging from the downwardly revised 2.7 percent jump in September. Monthly deflation was primarily due to an 8.9 decline in energy costs, as European natural gas prices fell sharply in the period. On the other hand, prices edged higher for consumer goods (1 percent), intermediate goods (0.4 percent), and capital goods (0.2 percent).
