A first-year college student in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, bravely foiled her own kidnapping attempt by three men in an autorickshaw by fighting back and escaping.
The disturbing incident occurred around 11 am, just a short distance from the local Women's Police Station in the Padav area, and was captured on CCTV, sparking outrage and renewed concerns over women's safety.
The kidnapping bid, which took place in broad daylight, was caught on CCTV cameras. According to police sources, the incident occurred when the minor student was on her way to college.
A nearby autorickshaw suddenly lurched toward her. One of the men inside caught hold of her hand, while another jumped out and tried to lift her by the leg. According to an NDTV report, the driver allegedly urged his accomplices to force her into the vehicle.
Showing extraordinary courage, the minor fought back fiercely, managed to break free, and ran toward the women’s police station to seek help. Before she could reach assistance, however, the attackers deserted the autorickshaw and escaped on foot.
Disturbed by the ordeal, the teenager first went home but later returned to file a formal complaint with the police. The autorickshaw has since been confiscated, and authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
The location of the crime — between a women’s polytechnic college and the women’s police station — has drawn widespread criticism from residents, who are questioning how such an incident could occur in one of the busiest and supposedly safest areas of the city.
“We have filed a case against the unidentified men and are close to identifying them through CCTV footage. Arrests will follow soon," inspector Shailendra Bhargava of Padav police station told the news channel.
