Mercedes-Benz has launched the new G-Class 450d in India, featuring the most powerful diesel engine in the company's global portfolio, priced from Rs 2.90 crore (ex-showroom). With this introduction, the German luxury carmaker now offers the G-Class in India with three powertrain options -- diesel, petrol and electric. Only 50 units of the G 450d have been earmarked for the initial allocation.
The G 450d is powered by a new 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder diesel engine with 48V mild hybrid technology. The motor produces 270kW (367hp) of maximum power and 750Nm of peak torque, with an additional 15kW (20hp) boost from the integrated starter generator. The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 210kmph. Power is sent to all four wheels via Mercedes-Benz's 4MATIC system.
"The new G 450d underlines our commitment to offer diesel, petrol and electric powertrains for the first time in India to the G-Class, the longest-running nameplate in the automotive industry. The G 450d, featuring Mercedes-Benz's powerful and efficient diesel engine, combines performance with efficiency, reiterating the sustained customer demand for a diesel powertrain in the G-Class. The G 450d ensures Mercedes-Benz now has a 'G-Class' for every customer requirement in India, further elevating practicality along with desirability and cult status of this iconic SUV," said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.

The new model continues with the G-Class's traditional body-on-frame construction, three mechanical differential locks and a combination of double-wishbone front suspension with a rigid rear axle. It offers up to 100% gradeability, 241mm ground clearance, a 70cm fording depth, and approach and departure angles of 31 degrees and 30 degrees, respectively.
In terms of design, the G 450d gets a new bumper with four vertical louvres, revised A-pillar cladding and a roof-edge spoiler lip to improve aerodynamics and acoustic comfort. The SUV drives on 20-inch AMG alloy wheels in a high-gloss black finish. Inside, it features AMG line interiors with Nappa leather upholstery, Burmester 3D surround sound with Dolby Atmos, and customisable ambient lighting.
The model is equipped with the latest MBUX NTG7 infotainment system, comprising dual 12.3-inch displays, augmented reality navigation, and wireless smartphone integration. It also includes a new off-road cockpit displaying data such as vehicle positioning, compass, steering angle and differential lock status.

Mercedes-Benz offers extensive customisation through its MANUFAKTUR program, which includes exclusive paint finishes and interior trims. The G 450d also features advanced safety systems such as active brake assist, lane-keeping assist and a 360-degree camera.
Mercedes-Benz India has also announced a new customer experience initiative called the 'G-Tribe Escapades'. Conducted in partnership with Cougar Motorsport, the first event, the G-Tribe Bhutan Escapade, will take place between November and December 2025, covering routes from India to Thimphu, Punakha and Paro.
The G-Class, first introduced globally in 1979, continues to be produced in Graz, Austria, and remains one of the longest-running model lines in the brand's history.
