The decision was taken up at a Cabinet meeting which was chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This does not include the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and The Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel.

"According to the formula, it was calculated to be given for 72 days but for the past six years it has been a tradition of giving them the bonus for 78 days, so the Cabinet has approved a 78-day productivity linked bonus for them," said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Read the full story here.

Turkey is Europe's largest tractor market and globally commands a 3% market share in the agri-machinery industry. The Turkish acquisition is part of M&M's plan to double its global revenue to USD 5 billion by 2019. It is targeting 50% revenues from global markets by 2019.

Eight of the 18 MLAs had moved court on Tuesday, challenging the action against them under the anti-defection law. They attacked Speaker P Dhanapal's order disqualifying them as MLAs as 'unauthorised' and 'illegal' in their individual petitions. Cairn initiated arbitration against the government using a new law that gave it powers to impose taxes retrospectively, to slap a tax demand of Rs 10,247 crore on a decade old internal reorganisation of its India unit. The company, however, did not provide reasons for the delay.

The Mumbai High field annually produces oil and natural gas of about 9-10MT of oil equivalent. The company discovered hydrocarbon reserves west of Mumbai High at well WO 24-3 in July.

The leading insurer would allot 3.18 crore shares to 69 anchor investors at an average price of Rs 700, garnering Rs 2,226 crore to the company, SBI Life informed to the exchanges.

10:48 For AA-rated Indian borrowers such as Hindalco Industries, choosing loans over rupee-denominated bonds is becoming a no-brainer after a drop in lending rates to the cheapest in seven years, reports Bloomberg. ‘‘Today, if we have to raise money, we will prefer loans any day,” Alphonso Richard Das, Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Head of Treasury at Mumbai-based Hindalco, said. “The big-bang improvement in banks’ lending rate post-demonetisation has prompted AA and lower rated corporates to gradually prefer loans over bonds.”

08:44 Mahindra & Mahindra is set to acquire a big tractor company in Turkey, reports CNBC-TV18. The company has zeroed in on one of Turkey's top five tractor makers, with the acquisition in 'final stages'. An announcement to this effect is expected shortly.

This would be M&M’s second tractor acquisition in Turkey this year. In January 2017, it had acquired Turkish company Hisarlar. Turkey is Europe's largest tractor market and globally commands a 3% market share in the agri-machinery industry.

The Turkish acquisition is part of M&M's plan to double its global revenue to USD 5 billion by 2019. It is targeting 50% revenues from global markets by 2019.

The mixed readings suggested housing could remain a drag on economic growth in the third quarter. Housing starts slipped 0.8% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.18 million units, the Commerce Department said. Starts for July were revised higher by 35,000 units. Building permits surged 5.7% to a rate of 1.30 million units in August, the highest level since January.
