US President Donald Trump on Saturday warned Palestinian group Hamas to “move quickly” and agree to a peace deal with Israel or risk facing further devastation in Gaza.
“Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off. I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again,” Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social account. “Let’s get this done, FAST.”
Donald Trump also noted that “Israel has temporarily stopped the bombing in order to give the Hostage release and Peace Deal a chance to be completed,” even as Gaza’s civil defense agency reported that Israel had carried out dozens of overnight strikes on Gaza City.
Two envoys of US President Donald Trump headed to Egypt on Saturday to discuss the release of hostages in Gaza after Hamas agreed to his ceasefire proposal, while Israeli forces carried out deadly strikes across the enclave, AFP reported.
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and envoy Steve Witkoff are expected to finalise details on the release of hostages and discuss a deal pushed by Trump to end the nearly two-year war between Israel and Hamas, a White House official said.
According to Egyptian state-linked media, Israel and Hamas will also hold indirect talks in Cairo on Sunday and Monday over a detainees and hostages exchange.
The talks come after Trump urged Israel to halt its bombardment of Gaza, following Hamas’s announcement that it was ready to release all hostages and begin negotiations under the ceasefire plan.
“The movement announces its approval for the release of all hostages — living and remains — according to the exchange formula included in President Trump’s proposal,” Hamas said in a statement on Friday.
Trump responded on Truth Social, writing: “Based on the statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly!”
On Saturday, he cautioned Hamas against stalling, saying he would “not tolerate delay” on the peace deal.
