Delhi-NCR may have malls and upscale showrooms aplenty, but street markets are just as sought after, especially when it comes to budget-friendly artefacts, handicrafts, and offbeat home décor. From retro lamps to hand-painted pottery, the bazaars provide variety and value. Seven of them are worth visiting.
1. Dilli Haat, INA
A cultural hotspot, Dilli Haat houses artisans from all over India. Look out for terracotta statuettes, Madhubani paintings, bamboo work, and metal lampwork. Prices are moderate, and every stall bears regional handiwork.
2. Janpath Market, Connaught Place
Janpath is famous for its bohemian collection of Tibetan art, brass items, and unusual home decor. Bargaining is necessary, and it's one of the most effective places to get cheap antiques and wall decorations.
3. Paharganj Main Bazaar
While disorganised, Paharganj has some of the city's cheapest handicrafts. From old trunks and lanterns to vibrant tapestries, the bazaar is a favourite among tourists for exclusive but inexpensive home decor pieces.
4. Sarojini Nagar Market
While renowned for apparel, Sarojini features stalls that sell fairy lights, fancy mirrors, and little wooden trinkets. It's a favourite among students and young couples with limited budgets when establishing modest homes.
5. Lajpat Nagar Central Market
In addition to its textile stores, Lajpat Nagar is also a destination for affordable home furnishings. Ornamental vases, cushion covers, wall clocks, and conventional lampshades are readily found, with sufficient opportunities for bargaining.
6. Sunder Nagar Market
For a more edited selection, Sunder Nagar has antique stores carrying silverware, pottery, and vintage furniture. The prices are marginally higher but still competitive to showrooms, and it's worth a browse for one-off pieces.
7. Banjara Market, Gurgaon
Gurgaon's open-air bazaar is heaven for distressed, repurposed home decor. Wooden furniture, distressed mirrors, ceramic vases, and boho touches are all available at affordable prices if you're willing to bargain.
From college students decorating hostels to homeowners adding character to their living rooms, Delhi’s street markets provide endless choices. Affordable yet full of character, these bazaars prove that stylish décor doesn’t have to be expensive.
