Nvidia has announced a major upgrade for its GeForce Now cloud gaming service, introducing DLSS 4, improved visuals, and enhanced performance thanks to the new Blackwell architecture. This upgrade marks one of the most significant updates to GeForce Now since its launch, offering gamers access to advanced features previously available only on physical hardware.
The move to the Blackwell architecture brings Nvidia’s RTX 5080 hardware to the cloud. Launched earlier this year for physical devices, the RTX 5080 supports DLSS 4, a technology designed to enhance graphics, increase response times, and provide smoother gameplay. With this update, GeForce Now users can expect improved visual quality and faster frame rates while streaming games.
With DLSS 4, GeForce Now will now allow streams at 5K resolution running at 120 frames per second. At 1080p resolution, gamers can stream at up to 360 frames per second, depending on their device capabilities. Nvidia also promises sub-30-millisecond network latency, improving the responsiveness of streamed games and offering a near-console-like experience.
Visual improvements go beyond frame rates. GeForce Now will now support the YUV color model and 10-bit HDR, ensuring better colour accuracy and richer imagery. AV1 encoders will also be used to optimise network connections, enabling high-quality streams at up to 100Mbps. This ensures smooth gameplay even for graphics-intensive titles.
The game library on GeForce Now is expanding rapidly. The service will soon include more than 2,200 Steam titles on the cloud, with plans to grow the library to over 4,500 games. Nvidia states that the platform will feature both “ready-to-play” and “install-to-play” games, allowing users to add titles to GeForce Now for streaming across multiple devices.
Ultimate and Performance members will receive 100GB of single-session cloud storage to manage their games. Additional storage will be available at extra cost. The membership pricing remains unchanged, with Ultimate at $19.99 per month and Performance at $9.99 per month.
The Blackwell update, including DLSS 4 and the expanded game library, is scheduled to begin rolling out in September 2025. With this upgrade, Nvidia aims to provide a cloud gaming experience that rivals local hardware, offering high-quality graphics, smooth performance, and access to thousands of games without the need for high-end personal devices.
