Apple is set to introduce Adaptive Power Mode with the upcoming iOS 26 update, aiming to extend battery life by managing resources more intelligently. However, the feature will not be available on all iPhones.
What is adaptive power mode?
Unlike the existing Low Power Mode, Adaptive Power Mode works in the background by dimming the display, controlling background tasks, and reducing system activity to save energy. When the battery reaches 20%, the phone will automatically shift into Low Power Mode. Users will also have the option to receive alerts whenever the feature activates.
Which iPhones support it?
Adaptive Power Mode will be exclusive to newer models, including:
Apple iPhone 17 series (to be announced on September 9
• iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
• iPhone 16 series (16e, 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max)
The upcoming iPhone 17 lineup will include this feature by default. Older models, such as the iPhone 14 series and earlier, won’t receive it.
How to enable it
After updating to iOS 26, users can enable the mode manually by going to Settings → Battery → Power Mode. By default, the feature will remain turned off.
Availability
iOS 26 is currently in beta testing and will roll out publicly in mid-September, bringing this advanced battery option to supported devices.
