The Chinese AI chatbot – DeepSeek – has became popular soon after its launch. The chatbot even managed to top the Apple App Store download charts and has even surpassed ChatGPT. Earlier today, the chatbot's services went down for several users across the globe or “faced degraded performance” as per DeepSeek’s status page.
DeepSeek is aware of the issues
DeepSeek’s dedicated status page which keeps track of service outages and also issues updates on the ongoing issue indicates that the DeepSeek Web and API services are facing some performance issues.
The page already has a dedicated incident report on the ongoing outage. Do note that this isn’t a complete service disruption, but just degraded performance which means users can use the service only at a slower speed with at times the chatbot returning no response or an error message.
What went wrong
According to DeepSeek’s incident report, there were a “large-scale malicious attacks” on the service. However, the company has not confirmed the exact details of what caused the issues. However, the company has mentioned that the issue has been identified and fix has been implemented.
The company has also mentioned, “We are continuing to monitor for any further issues”. In addition to this, the company has also mentioned that they have paused the registration as a part of the fix temporarily.
“Due to large-scale malicious attacks on DeepSeek's services, we are temporarily limiting registrations to ensure continued service. Existing users can log in as usual. Thanks for your understanding and support.”
It is worth noting that the existing users can still access and use the service as usual.
