Apple is extending its environmental footprint to India with fresh grants supporting mangrove forest protection, while simultaneously announcing a new investment in the restoration and sustainable management of a redwood forest in California. Both moves are part of the company’s Restore Fund initiative, which now spans more than two dozen conservation and regenerative agriculture projects across six continents.
In India, Apple is working with Conservation International to nurture local conservation leaders and strengthen efforts to protect fragile mangrove ecosystems — a critical buffer against climate change and coastal erosion. The company also announced support for the Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots and Shoots programme and a partnership with The Nature Conservancy to test advanced remote-sensing tools for monitoring climate solutions.
Closer to home, Apple’s latest investment centres on the Gualala River Forest in Mendocino County, California. In partnership with The Conservation Fund, Apple is funding the long-term restoration and sustainable management of this working redwood forest. The move ensures continued habitat protection for hundreds of species while generating carbon credits as the forest grows.
“Forests are one of the most powerful technologies we have for removing carbon from the atmosphere,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. “Our global investments in nature are leveraging that technology while supporting communities, stimulating local economies, and enhancing biodiversity.”
Since its launch in 2021 with Goldman Sachs and Conservation International, the Restore Fund has expanded steadily. Climate Asset Management joined in 2023, and this year Apple added new direct investments in the U.S. and Latin America. Suppliers TSMC and Murata are also onboard.
These projects tie into Apple’s 2030 carbon-neutral goal, which requires a 75% reduction in emissions versus 2015 levels. Apple says it has already passed 60% and aims to balance the rest through high-quality carbon removal, targeting 9.6 million metric tons annually by decade’s end.
