The second session on Day 4 of the fourth Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series saw India dominate, largely thanks to Jasprit Bumrah's stellar performance. The vice-captain delivered a fiery spell, claiming three quick wickets and reducing Australia to six down for less than 100 runs. However, India's momentum was marred by missed opportunities in the field, particularly by Yashasvi Jaiswal, whose three dropped catches left captain Rohit Sharma visibly frustrated.
The first dropped catch occurred late in the third over of Australia’s second innings. Positioned at leg gully for Bumrah’s delivery to Usman Khawaja, Jaiswal failed to grab the ball as it burst through his hands. Although he was standing closer than usual, giving him little time to react, the miss proved costly.
The second error was harder to excuse. In the 40th over, Akash Deep bowled a short-of-a-length delivery that Marnus Labuschagne tried to guide through gully. The ball went straight to Jaiswal, presenting a straightforward catch, but he failed to hold on.
Labuschagne, who was yet to reach his half-century, was handed a lifeline at a crucial juncture, much to Rohit’s dismay. Cameras captured the Indian skipper throwing up his hands in frustration, while Jaiswal appeared visibly embarrassed.

Despite the missed chances, India's bowlers continued to dominate the session, maintaining pressure on the Australian batters.
Former Australia cricketers on Rohit's reaction
Commentator Mark Nicholas highlighted Rohit's reaction, describing his clear displeasure. Meanwhile, fellow commentator Mike Hussey took a different stance, criticizing Rohit's visible frustration and suggesting that the captain should have remained calm and shown support for the young fielder after the mistakes.
"I've got to be honest, this is not the right body language from the captain," Hussey said on Fox Cricket.
"I appreciate he's emotional, and he desperately wants wickets, but you’re the one who has to send the message of calm and support. No-one means to drop a catch. He’s gonna feel bad enough as it is for putting a catch down, especially someone like Marnus Labuschagne, it happens quickly, it’s in, it’s out. You don’t need to see that as a young player.”
Aussie star Alyssa Healy added: “Particularly when you need him to walk out and open the batting alongside you, to make some runs and try and win a Test match for your country.”
