The Duleep Trophy tournament has commenced the 2024-25 senior men’s Indian domestic cricket season on Thursday, serving as a crucial preparatory platform for India's forthcoming home Test series and the eagerly anticipated tour to Australia later this year.

The Duleep Trophy tournament has undergone a significant overhaul in its structure and format, featuring four teams: India A, India B, India C, and India D, captained by Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer, respectively.

In the match between Abhimanyu Easwaran’s Team B and Shubman Gill’s Team A at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, a pivotal catch by the agile wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel dismissed Team B captain Abhimanyu Easwaran.

Avesh Khan, bowling for Team A, claimed the first wicket of this edition of the tournament when he lured Easwaran, who had been watchfully batting for 41 deliveries, to chase a ball well outside his off-stump. Easwaran managed only a thick edge, which Dhruv Jurel, the wicketkeeper for India A, superbly caught by diving to his right.

The early dismissal of Easwaran was a significant setback for Team B, as the captain is renowned for his ability to anchor the innings and provide stability at the top of the order. His wicket places added pressure on the remaining batsmen to step up and contribute significantly to the team’s total. Jurel’s catch not only highlighted his exceptional wicketkeeping skills but also underscored the importance of having a reliable and agile gloveman behind the stumps.

As the tournament progresses, cricket enthusiasts can look forward to more such thrilling moments and impressive performances from the talented young cricketers participating in the Duleep Trophy.
