Virat Kohli, a name synonymous with cricketing excellence, is also well-known for his interest in luxury cars.

Virat Kohli, a name synonymous with cricketing excellence, is also well-known for his interest in luxury cars. The former captain of the Indian cricket team has a notable collection, including prestigious brands like Audi, for which he serves as a brand ambassador. Kohli's passion for cars goes back to his first significant purchase, a Tata Safari, which marked a milestone in his life, reflecting his success in cricket.
In an interview with Star Sports, Kohli shared the story behind his first car. After achieving considerable success in cricket, he decided to buy a Tata Safari Dicor, a ladder-on-frame SUV. He was drawn to this vehicle due to its robust road presence and masculine appeal, characteristics that resonated with him and his brother, who decided together on the purchase.

Kohli described the Tata Safari as the kind of car that when driven on the road, "makes other cars naturally move aside.". He humorously remarked, "Safari uss time pe aisi gaadi hoti thi ke road pe chalegi toh jo saamne se aa rahe hain voh apne aap hi side ho jayenge" (The Safari was such a car at that time, that if it drove down the road, the oncoming cars would automatically move aside).

Virat also shared that when he was travelling with his brother, they mistakenly filled up the car tank with Petrol instead of Diesel.

Apart from his affinity for the Tata Safari, Kohli also shared how his preferences for cars evolved over time, especially after marrying Anushka Sharma and welcoming their daughter, Vamika.

Kohli is now a brand ambassador for Audi and travels in the brand's luxurious SUVs—a significant change from his earlier choice of the rugged  Tata Safari. This transition from a practical SUV to high-end luxury cars mirrors his journey from a young cricket talent to a global sports icon.

The Tata Safari holds a unique place in Indian automotive history. Initially introduced in the late '90s, it was a premium seven-seater SUV, distinct from other Tata offerings like the Sumo and Sierra.

As his career progressed, Kohli's taste in cars also evolved. He now owns two luxurious Bentley cars, a Continental GT and a Flying Spur, with the latter stationed in Mumbai after he moved post-marriage. These cars, known for their elegance and powerful performance, are a testament to Kohli's stature and success.

Despite his shift towards more luxurious cars, the Safari remains a significant part of Kohli's automotive journey. Kohli's story of filling petrol in his diesel Safari on one occasion adds a touch of relatability to his experiences.
