Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal made Team India's intentions clear from the word go in the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. With a majority of play lost due to poor weather conditions, India still are eyeing for a win as they walked out to bat in the second session of Day 4. Earlier, India folded the Bangladesh innings at 233, who resumed the proceedings on Day 4 from 107/3.
The opening pair of Rohit and Yashasvi dealt in boundaries and helped India record the fastest 50 in Test cricket. India took just three overs to reach the milestone, a record which was previously held by England. They had achieved the same in 26 deliveries.
Yashasvi kicked-off the innings by slamming three consecutive fours against Hasan Mahmud, who had completed a fifer in the opening clash in Chennai. Rohit joined the party in the second over and smashed Khaled Ahmed for a maximum in the first ball he faced. The Indian skipper repeated the same in the next ball by dislodging it over the square leg fence. Jaiswal then finished the over with a boundary, which took India's total to 29/0 after the end of two overs.
The third over saw Rohit hammer Hasan for another maximum and Yashasvi finished it by hitting the pacer for two boundaries and a six, thus taking India's total beyond the 50-run mark. The enthralling show by the Indian openers left everyone mesmerised, with Dinesh Karthik on commentary reacting: "Test match on steroids." He added: "it's happening too fast, too quickly."
Earlier when Rohit started the innings with consecutive sixes, the wicketkeeper-batter in jest remarked: "someone needs to tell Rohit Sharma he has retired from T20Is."
Rohit earlier earned a reprieve in the first delivery of the third over, which took a fine bottom edge before being collected by the wicketkeeper, Litton Das. Rohit immediately had his tongue out but survived due to a lackluster appeal by the opposition. Barring Mehidy Hasan Miraz nobody else was convinced of a potential edge, as Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto didn't opt for a review. TV replays showed the ball passing close to the bat and UltraEdge confirmed a bottom edge.
Rohit, however, failed to capitalise on the chance and was dismissed by Mehidy in the fourth over. He was cleaned up by the spinner on 23(11) but received a standing ovation from the crowd for the entertainment he put in his brief stay in the middle.
Shubman Gill joined the proceedings as India maintained the momentum. Yashasvi then went to complete his half-century, which came in 31 balls. This placed him fourth in the list of Indians with fastest Test half-centuries.

The left-handed batter, however, recorded the fastest Test half-century against Bangladesh. Zimbabwe's Brendan Taylor held the previous record by slamming a half-century off 33 balls in Harare in 2021.
As the hitting continued, India recorded a new feat, which is the fastest team 100s in Test cricket in terms of over faced. India took 10.1 overs to reach the triple digit mark.

Yashasvi was eventually dismissed for 72(51) as Rishabh Pant walked out in the middle. Together with Gill, the duo have taken India close to 150 and are scoring at a healthy run-rate.
Pant and Gill soon were packed by the opposition but India continued with their onslaught. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul then drove India past 200 in 24.2 overs, making it the fastest in this format. The previous record was held by Australia, who had achieved the 200-run milestone in 28.1 overs against Pakistan in Sydney in 2017.
