Mohsin Naqvi came under fire from BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia for refusing to hand it over to India

After the Indian women's cricket team made history by winning the ICC Women's World Cup 2025, Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), made fun of Mohsin Naqvi and threatened to take severe action against the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for the Asia Cup trophy fiasco.

In front of home fans at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India defeated South Africa in the final by 52 runs on Sunday, marking the country's first-ever Women's World Cup title.

Following the trophy presentation ceremony, ACC head Naqvi, who has been holding onto the Asia Cup 2025 trophy since September 28, came under fire from BCCI Secretary Saikia for refusing to hand it over to India.

In sharp contrast to the turmoil Naqvi had caused, Saikia joked that the women's squad received their prize swiftly and calmly.

“… After today’s victory, our team got the trophy immediately. When our men’s team won the Asia Cup in Dubai, the trophy, till date, has not landed in the BCCI office…,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said.

Naqvi, also the Interior Minister of Pakistan, is hellbent that a member of Team India and a BCCI official pick up the trophy personally from him. Saikia once again emphasised that the issue would be brought up at the ICC meeting on November 4 and promised to take severe action.

“10 days ago, we have written to the ACC Chairperson, requesting to hand over the trophy to BCCI at the earliest. But till today, we have not received the trophy. We are waiting for another day. If we do not get the trophy by 3 November, a meeting will be held at ICC in Dubai. We will raise our grievance before the apex body of international cricket. I am sure ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy at the earliest,” he added.

In the meantime, the board announced a cash award of Rs 51 crore to the victorious Indian women's team. Additionally, they will get prize money from the ICC totaling USD 4.48 million (Rs 39.78 crore).

“… Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah increased women’s prize money by 300%. Earlier, the prize money was $3.88 million, and now it has been increased to $14 million… BCCI has also announced a reward prize of Rs 51 crores for the entire team- players, coaches, selectors, and support staff,” Saikia said.
