Ahmedabad is set to redefine the future of travel in India with its upcoming 16-floor railway station — the first of its kind in the country. Designed as a full multimodal transport hub, the new station will integrate bullet trains, metro connectivity, conventional rail services, and bus transport into one world-class complex, scheduled for completion by July 2027.
A Landmark Station on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Route
The station will serve as a major node on the 508 km Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, India’s first bullet train project developed with support from Japan.
Rising above Western Railway platforms 10, 11, and 12, it will provide direct access to Kalupur Metro Station, creating seamless transfers for commuters.
India’s first Shinkansen-style bullet train will operate from here, running at 320 km/h using Japan’s advanced E5 Series technology, drastically reducing travel time between the two cities.
Architecture Inspired by Ahmedabad’s Heritage
The station’s design pays homage to the cultural identity of Ahmedabad:
Roof shaped like soaring kites — symbolising the city’s famous Uttarayan festival.
Façade inspired by Sidi Saiyyed’s Jaali — one of the city’s most iconic architectural motifs.
The structure blends modern engineering with traditional craftsmanship, creating a visually striking landmark in the heart of the city.
A True Multimodal Transport Hub
Unlike traditional railway stations, the 16-floor Ahmedabad terminal is being developed as a full-scale urban mobility and commercial centre. It will house multiple transport modes in one integrated space, including a Bullet Train terminal, seamless Metro connectivity, conventional long-distance and local trains, and bus transportation.
The complex will also feature large parking zones, dedicated office spaces, retail and mall areas, and upgraded restrooms, lounges, and modern waiting zones. Designed to serve daily commuters, tourists, and city residents, the hub will offer everything from transit and workspaces to leisure and shopping — all under one roof.
Designed for the Future: High Capacity and Smarter Mobility
Railway officials confirm that the station is being engineered to handle significantly higher passenger volumes in the years ahead. To support this growth, the surrounding neighbourhood will be redeveloped with wider access roads, improved last-mile connectivity, and upgraded public transport services, ensuring smoother movement around the hub. Together, these enhancements aim to deliver faster, more convenient, and future-ready travel for millions.
Boosting Ahmedabad’s Economy and Tourism
Once operational, the new station is expected to generate major economic benefits for the city. It will drive increased footfall for local businesses, stimulate growth in retail and commercial activity, and attract a higher influx of tourists thanks to improved connectivity. By elevating Ahmedabad’s position as a key urban and travel hub, the project marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward world-class mobility infrastructure.
A New Era of Travel for Western India
With its cutting-edge architecture, innovative transport integration, and bullet-train connectivity, Ahmedabad’s upcoming 16-floor station is set to become one of India’s most advanced transport hubs — transforming how millions travel across the region.
