Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets edged lower on the weekly expiry day, losing nearly half a percent and extending the ongoing consolidation phase. After a soft start, the Nifty drifted gradually through the session and settled near the day’s low at 26,032, marking a decline of around 0.43% from the previous close of 26,176. Sectorally, most indices moved in line with the benchmark, with banking, financials, and metal among the top losers. The broader market tone also remained subdued, as both midcap and smallcap indices ended in the red.
The decline was primarily driven by a sharp contraction in the IIP data, weakness in the rupee, and caution ahead of the upcoming US Fed and RBI policy decisions later in the week. Global cues offered little support, with US markets closing lower due to rising treasury yields and Asian markets showing only a modest rebound.
The Nifty is once again approaching its immediate support zone near the 20-DEMA around 25,950, with the trendline support at 25,900 providing additional cushion. Meanwhile, participants should continue to adopt a stock-specific trading approach, with a short-term preference for auto, banking, pharma, and IT names, while also considering selective shorts in weaker pockets as a hedge.

Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivative Research, Asit C. Mehta Investment Interrmediates
The Nifty index started the day on a gap-down note, witnessed continued selling pressure, and eventually settled on a negative note at 26,032. On the daily chart, Nifty has formed a small red candle with shadows on either side, indicating uncertainty. In the near term, major resistance for the index is placed at 26,325. Until the index persists below this level, any bounce should be used for profit booking. On the downside, 25,840 will act as crucial support base, where the short term swing low is placed. Considering the overall setup, traders are advised to buy near support levels and sell near the resistance mentioned above.
The Bank Nifty index opened negative note, witnessed continued selling pressure, and settled on a bearish note at 59,274. Technically, on the daily chart, the Bank Nifty has formed a small red candle with a long upper shadow, reflecting selling pressure at elevated levels. As per this formation, as long as the Bank Nifty remains below 60,114, any bounce should be used for profit booking. On the downside, immediate support is placed near 58,810 where 21-DEMA is placed followed by multiple support base of 58,650. Therefore, short-term traders are advised to adopt a buy-near-support and sell near the resistance zone mentioned above.

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
Nifty witnessed another day of lackluster trading with a predominantly negative bias. On the hourly chart, the index continued to trade below the 21EMA. A mild negative divergence on the daily chart has contributed to the recent weakness in momentum.
On the hourly chart, a rising trendline offers immediate support; however, if Nifty slips below this trendline, a slide towards 25,900 may follow.
On the other hand, resistance is placed at 26,150, and a move above this level could improve sentiment. Overall, a bearish to sideways sentiment may persist over the next few days.

Siddhartha Khemka - Head of Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services
Nifty ended lower by 144 points at 26,032 (–0.6%), weighed down by broad-based weakness and nervousness ahead of the RBI’s interest rate decision on 5th December. Most sectors closed in the red, with private banks and financial services leading the decline, down 0.7% and 0.8% respectively. In contrast, the PSU Bank index gained 0.5%, marking its second consecutive day of gains.
Other rate-sensitive sectors—including Auto, Realty and Consumer Durables—saw profit booking amid cautious market sentiment.
Monthly auto volumes for Nov’25 exceeded market expectations, with wholesales showing strong post-festive growth across segments, supported by festive order backlogs and normalization of dealer inventory.
The key monitorable ahead will be retail demand trends from Jan’26, though the underlying consumption sentiment remains positive. On the macro front, investors will track comments from the US Federal Reserve and JOLTS jobs data today, followed by US non-farm payrolls and India’s Services PMI tomorrow.
The INR weakened further to a fresh record low of 89.92, pressured by sustained foreign outflows and elevated global crude prices.
Overall, markets are likely to remain in consolidation mode, reacting to domestic and global cues, with US jobs data expected to guide the Fed’s policy outlook next week. Rate-sensitive sectors will stay in focus ahead of the RBI policy outcome on Friday.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities
On the weekly expiry day, the benchmark Nifty index opened on a subdued note with a notable downside gap. Although the index made an early attempt to recover, it failed to hold above the 26150 mark. This inability to sustain the bounce triggered further selling pressure, dragging the index lower for most of the session.
In the final hour, the index managed to stage a mild rebound after hitting the day’s low at 25997. However, the recovery lacked conviction, and Nifty eventually closed at 26032, down 0.55%. On the daily chart, the index has formed a bearish candle with wicks on both ends, indicating both intraday volatility and a tug-of-war between bulls and bears.
Within the Nifty constituents, Asian Paints and Dr. Reddy’s emerged as the top performers, offering some resilience amid the broader weakness. On the flip side, Indigo and ICICI Bank led the losers’ pack. Sector-wise, Nifty Pharma, Nifty IT, and Nifty Healthcare indices managed to close in the green, whereas Nifty Media, Nifty Chemicals, and Nifty Private Bank witnessed sharp declines.
The broader market continued to remain under pressure, mirroring the cautious undertone. Notably, the Nifty Small Cap 100 index once again breached its 200-day EMA, a sign that the broader market structure remains fragile. The market breadth was heavily skewed in favour of declines, with 338 out of Nifty 500 constituents ending in the red. Over the past few sessions, this persistent weakness in breadth stands out, especially at a time when the benchmark index is hovering near its all-time high levels, hinting at a lack of widespread participation in the rally and increasing vulnerability for bulls.
Nifty View
Going ahead, for Nifty, the 20-day EMA zone of 25980-25950 will act as important support. On the upside, the zone of 26140-26160 will act as an important hurdle for the index. Any sustainable move above the 26160 level will lead to a sharp upside rally upto the 26300 level.
Bank Nifty View
The banking benchmark index, Bank Nifty, ended on a negative note for the second consecutive trading session. On a daily scale, it has formed a bearish candle with a long upper shadow.
Going ahead, the 20-day EMA zone of 58950-58850 will act as important support for the index. On the upside, the zone of 59600-59700 will act as a crucial hurdle for the index. Any sustainable move above the 59700 level will lead to a sharp upside rally upto the 60200 level.

FII selling has once again gathered pace and in the last three sessions have sold domestic shares worth more than Rs 6,000 crore.
Valuations at elevated levels and delay in the announcement of the Indo-US trade deal is causing a lot of anxiety amongst the investors who are looking at fresh positive triggers. The rupee's downward spiral is also adding to investors discomfort.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
Domestic markets continued to witness profit booking amid worries over the weakening rupee and persistent FII outflows. Meanwhile, the NSE’s sectoral index overhaul in line with SEBI regulations led to corrections in major banking counters.
In the near term, fading expectations of an RBI rate cut owing to strong GDP data and the uncertainty around US–India trade discussions may keep investors on edge.
Even so, solid domestic macro fundamentals and a strengthening earnings outlook for the second half of the fiscal year are likely to lend support going forward.

Colin Shah, MD. Kama Jewelry
Internationally, the year 2025 has been quite a mixed-bag for the Indian Gems & Jewellery sector, especially influenced global economic headwinds and a rise in the price of precious metals. To add to it, the trade tariffs was another major shock of the sector. There was a panic-trade situation where the sector witnessed a spike in cross-border business for a couple of months, before going back to a dull momentum. Contrastingly, the domestic market performed very well throughout, with some negligible corrections here and there, as consumption gained strength on the backdrop of a robust economy, empowered purchasing ability, and the GST Bonanza right ahead of the festive season. It is safe to say that the vacuum created by international trade volatility was covered to a certain extent by domestic demand.
The reflection of a robust domestic economic activity can be seen in the real GPD growth – which has recorded six quarters high during H1FY26. This is a major indicator of strengthened consumption appetite of the Indian population and is expected to continue. This sentiment is here to stay and underlines a well-optimized growth for the domestic gems & jewellery sector, irrespective of the downtrend in the global markets.
Overall, we will see the gold prices further stride toward new record highs, but will remain a favourite investment and prestige purchase for the Indian population, keeping the sectoral growth trajectory upwards.

Silver stole the limelight again on Monday, extending the strong momentum from Friday’s 6% surge, as decade-low Chinese inventories, persistent supply-tightness concerns, elevated borrowing costs and ETF demand pushed COMEX prices to a fresh record of $59.4 per ounce. Global silver ETFs saw inflows of 9.7 million ounces last week, bringing year-to-date additions to 113.4 million ounces.
Meanwhile, Gold finished the day little changed after briefly reaching a six-week high of $4,264 an ounce, supported by growing expectations of a U.S. interest-rate cut. CME data indicate markets now assign nearly an 87% probability to a December cut. The latest economic data added to the cautious tone, with the Institute for Supply Management reporting that U.S. manufacturing contracted for a ninth consecutive month as the PMI slipped to 48.2. Today, gold eased to $4,220 on profit-taking, while silver declined 2% to $57.2 as investors took a breather after the metal’s accelerated six-day advance and awaited key US data releases later in the week.
WTI crude oil climbed to $60/bbl yesterday after OPEC+ kept production plans unchanged and maintained its three-month pause on output increases for early 2026. The rise was amplified by geopolitical tensions, as ongoing Russia-Ukraine strikes despite diplomatic efforts keeps markets skeptical of a Ukraine peace deal.
Ukraine’s attack on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal, Kazakhstan’s main crude export route, along with drone strikes on a Russian refinery and the Beriev aviation plant in the Rostov region added a notable risk premium. Further support came from comments by U.S. President Trump that airspace over and around Venezuela should be considered closed, raising concerns over potential supply disruptions. Today, oil prices are holding their gains and trade above $59.5 as markets assess these renewed geopolitical risks, including Ukraine’s stepped-up attacks on Russian energy infrastructure and the possibility of U.S. military action in Venezuela.
