The Indian selectors will convene in Mumbai on Tuesday, August 19, to choose the Asia Cup team, and their selections may go against popular belief and expectations. Mohammed Siraj and Shubman Gill are two of the standout players from the England tour who might still struggle to make the squad, read a Cricbuzz report.

In terms of series totals, Gill amassed over 750 runs, second only to the great Sunil Gavaskar. The Asia Cup is a brief T20I competition, therefore it seems sense that those runs occurred in five-day matches. He scored an incredible 650 runs in the IPL as well, but they were as an opener, and the selectors are probably going to continue with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson as they are.

Although Gill's name will undoubtedly be spoken, there is always space for a third opener, and Yashasvi Jaiswal is a serious candidate. Jaiswal seems to have the advantage and is predicted to be selected for the September 9–28 championship. Both could be chosen, but as of right now, Gill appears to be losing ground unless Gautam Gambhir makes a compelling argument for the Test captain.

Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rinku Singh are probably the other hitters in the team; a batting position is still up for debate. Shreyas Iyer, who led from the front for IPL finalists Punjab Kings, might not be as lucky as Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar, who are also contenders. It is anticipated that Jitesh Sharma will take the position of second wicketkeeper.

Siraj, who took the most wickets in the Anderson-Tendulkar series, might have trouble finding a spot since Jasprit Bumrah, who is perhaps the best bowler in the world, will be given the responsibility of spearheading the attack. Arshdeep Singh and one or both of Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana are anticipated to be selected. The other pacer in the team will be Hardik Pandya, who bowled the vital final over in the T20 World Cup. It seems unlikely that veteran seamer Mohammed Shami, who was in the starting lineup for India's most recent Twenty20 International match against England, will be taken into consideration.

The chosen spinners will be Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, and vice-captain Axar Patel. Washington Sundar, who was included in the previous T20I team in February, is probably going to get a spot, although not guaranteed.
