Asia Cup trophy row takes centerstage as PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi reaches Dubai for ICC meeting: Report

It's important to note that Naqvi missed the first few days of the ICC meeting in Dubai and only showed up an hour before the official board meeting was set to begin.

Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), arrived in Dubai for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board meeting on November 7, at 3 pm IST, as reported by the Times of India. The board members had started having casual conversations earlier without the presence of Naqvi, it added.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to bring up the Asia Cup trophy issue during the meeting, even though it isn't formally on the schedule. This might spark a contentious debate between the bitter rivals.

Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, has frequently brought up the issue of the Asia Cup trophy and had previously emphasised that the matter will be brought up.

"Ten days ago, we wrote to the ACC Chairperson, requesting that he hand over the trophy to the BCCI at the earliest. However, to this day, we have not received the trophy. We are waiting for another day. If we do not get the trophy by 3 November, a meeting will be held at the ICC headquarters in Dubai. We will raise our grievance before the apex body of international cricket. I am sure ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy at the earliest," Saikia had told ANI.

India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, which had more drama after the last ball than during the match. The presentation ceremony took place without India getting the silverware, as PCB and ACC president Naqvi took it with him.

The issue was brought up by the BCCI at an ACC meeting last month, but Naqvi's defiance has prevented a resolution. Other Dubai administrators may put pressure on Naqvi as India is expected to receive a lot of support when the issue is discussed.

It's important to note that Naqvi missed the first few days of the ICC meeting in Dubai and only showed up an hour before the official board meeting was set to begin.
