MS Dhoni was inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame 2025 earlier this week. The cricket governing body acknowledged Dhoni's contribution to the sport - a career spanning from December 2004 till August 2020. During his stint with the Indian cricket team, Dhoni led India to two World Cup glories and one ICC Champions Trophy. In fact, India also attained the No. 1 Test rankings under his leadership.
Dhoni was felicitated by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) for the amazing feat. Ajay Nath Shahdeo, head of JSCA, congratulated Dhoni on his distinguished career and inclusion on the elite list. “Heartiest congratulations to #Mahi @mahi7781 on his #ICCHallOfFame induction! Had the pleasure of meeting him and celebrating this remarkable achievement. Wishing #Mahi continued success and admiration from fans worldwide!” Shahdeo wrote in an Instagram post, sharing a photograph from the meeting.
Five men's cricketers were added to the list, joining Dhoni: former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori, South Africans Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla, and Australian batting legend Matthew Hayden. Former Pakistani captain Sana Mir and England wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor were also inducted into the select group.
“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever,” Dhoni was quoted as saying in an ICC press release.
