Mohammed Siraj receives ‘king-like treatment’ after taking a beating from Delhi heat

India pacer Mohammed Siraj was seen receiving some treatment after taking a beating from the intense heat on Day 4 of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Siraj was seen exhausted as a member of the support staff was seen massaging his feet, while another placed an ice pack on his head, then across his face.

Observing the scene, former India wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik sarcastically referred it as a "king-like treatment". This was after the pacer's six-over spell after Lunch.

Karthik, who was in the commentary box, remarked: "What we see right now, the fast bowlers being treated like kings after a hard spell. It's the same case everywhere, by the way. I just need to let viewers know that it's not just on the ground, off the field, but also in the com box. We've got to be careful when you do that with Bish (Ian Bishop, who was also present in the commentary box), though. The ice straight on the head to calm him down at times. For Bish and for Siraj."

After resuming the day from the overnight total of 173/2, John Campbell and Shai Hope continued their grind and survived the opening session. Campbell completed his first Test hundred by dispatching Ravindra Jadeja for a six. It also made him the first opener from West Indies to reach three figures since March 2023. However, the 177-run stand was eventually broken by Jadeja. As the West Indies kept up the pressure and took the lead, Hope continued to bat on and completed his century too.

The visitors were eventually dismissed for 390, leaving India a 121-run target. The final pair of Jayden Seales and Justin Greaves survived 22 overs with the latter returning unbeaten on 50.

Meanwhile, India enforced the follow-on on Sunday after dismissing the visitors for 248 in the first innings. This gave India a healthy lead of 270 runs after they piled 518/5 declared in first-innings.

Kuldeep Yadav claimed three wickets after registering a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Siraj scalped two wickets in the second innings, taking his total tally to three in the match.
