IPL 2025: All 10 teams have begun to gain a better understanding of their prospects as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 approaches its halfway point. The competition to make the playoffs is getting fiercer as over half of the games have been played.
Every game is vital in the second part of the league stage because most teams are in close proximity to one another on the points table. Thus, in addition to victories, the Net Run Rate (NRR) is anticipated to be a key factor in deciding which four teams advance to the playoffs.
Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC)
With 12 points from 8 games and NRRs of +1.104 and +0.657, respectively, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are the top two teams. Both teams have six games left, and with their strong NRR, three more victories might guarantee a playoff berth.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
With six wins from 9 matches, RCB have strong chances to qualify for the playoffs. If RCB win three out of their remaining five matches, they won’t have to rely on other teams' results.

Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
Both MI and LSG are in fourth and sixth position, respectively, after winning five of their last nine games. LSG's NRR is -0.054, whilst MI's is a robust +0.673. To increase their prospects of qualifying for the playoffs, both teams must win at least three of their final five games.
Punjab Kings (PBKS)
With five victories in eight games, PBKS will not need to depend on the outcomes of other teams if they win four of their next six games.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
With only three victories from eight games, KKR is now ranked seventh in the points table. Even though they haven't won many games, their positive NRR of +0.212 puts them in the running for the playoffs. They will need to win at least five of their final six games and perhaps depend on the outcomes of other teams in order to have a more straightforward route to qualification.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Winning games is insufficient given Sunrisers Hyderabad's current state, even after winning the game against CSK. Many teams finish with the same number of points after the league stage. Therefore, in order to increase their NRR, SRH needs to aim for huge margin wins. They are still alive and will hope to get 16 points at the end of the league stage.
Rajasthan Royals (RR)
With just two victories from eight games, RR are close to the bottom of the table and are ranked ninth. The worry is increased by their negative NRR. Even though they are practically out of the qualification race, they can still hope for the best by winning their next five games and then hoping for a few favorable outcomes.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
Chennai Super Kings are almost out of the competition. Mathematically and officially, CSK are still in it but their fourth consecutive defeat at home has got them at the bottom of the points table with a net run-rate of -1.302. Just like RR, CSK would need to win all their remaining games alongside hoping alot of other matches result go their way which is highly unlikely.
The MS Dhoni-led team can score up to 14 points, and in order to advance to the next round, they will need to have a high net run rate. Since the league's expansion to ten teams, Royal Challengers Bengaluru is the only team with 14 points that has qualified for the playoffs (in 2024).
