Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Jamie Overton was left in awe of the sheer stardom MS Dhoni commands whenever he makes an appearance at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. During the IPL 2025 season, Overton was stunned by the thunderous roar from the Yellow Army as 'Thala' walked onto the field.

For CSK fans, Dhoni is everything. The crowd at Chepauk erupts with deafening cheers every time he steps onto the field—whether it's to bat, keep wickets, or simply warm up. His mere presence ignites a frenzy, turning the stadium atmosphere electric and indescribable. The roars that follow Dhoni are not just cheers; they’re a celebration of a legend.

Overton, playing in the IPL for the first this year was shocked when his teammate Ravindra Jadeja got out and the home crowd was cheering.

"I messaged my dad and my agent after the first home game. I was like, 'You have to come out and experience MS walking out to the middle. [Ravindra] Jadeja got run-out… and you had a home crowd cheering for someone to get run-out. I've watched Premier League games, plenty of other sports events, and there's nothing else like that noise," Overton told ESPNCricinfo.

Although Dhoni remained unbeaten on zero in that match, fans were on the edge of their seats, hoping for one of his trademark finishes—a moment that never came, as Rachin Ravindra sealed the chase with a six.

Jamie Overton, who has been given a similar lower-order role, shared that he has been closely observing Dhoni’s technique during practice sessions. He’s been studying the CSK legend’s approach in the nets, hoping to adapt better to the challenging subcontinental conditions.

"He holds the bat quite low with his hands, whereas I'm more an English or Australian version, with quite high hands. The spinners don't get as much bounce [in India] so I'm trying to be a bit lower, with my hands a bit more relaxed... I feel like I'm in a good place with my batting," he explained.
