Life often tests us with difficult times. In these moments, it is easy to feel hopeless and blame our luck. But the story of Rohini Gurjar from Rajasthan shows us that the human spirit can be stronger than any misfortune.
Rohini's dream was clear: to become an RAS officer. After completing her graduation in 2006, she began her preparation with the full support of her family. After her marriage, this dream became a shared journey, as she and her husband studied together for the exam.
But then, tragedy struck. Her husband, her partner in this journey, passed away suddenly.
The loss was devastating. It felt like her world had ended. But with the strength given by her family, Rohini decided not to give up. She picked herself up and continued her studies, now with a renewed purpose: to fulfill her dream for both of them.
Just as she was finding her footing, another sorrow arrived. Her grandmother, who had always been a source of encouragement, passed away during the RAS preliminary exam. The loss was another heavy blow. Yet, remembering her grandmother's belief in her, Rohini found the courage to continue. Her family, both from her parents' home and her in-laws' home, stood by her, urging her to keep going.
She cleared the preliminary exam. With her ten-year-old daughter by her side, she began preparing for the next big challenge: the RAS Mains exam.
Then, the unthinkable happened. Just eight days before the Mains exam, her young daughter passed away.
To lose a child is a pain beyond words. For many, this would be the point of surrender. But Rohini, carrying an ocean of grief, made a monumental decision. She would not let her sacrifices be in vain. She would write the exam.
As if fate had one more test, two days before the exam, Rohini met with an accident in Jaipur. She suffered a serious injury to her eye. The doctors had to bandage it completely.
Imagine this: sitting for one of the toughest competitive exams in India, with a heart weighed down by the loss of her husband, grandmother, and daughter, and with one eye covered by a bandage.
Yet, Rohini walked into the examination hall.
With only one eye to see, she wrote her papers. Her determination was so powerful that she cleared the RAS Mains exam. She then performed well in the interview and was finally selected for the RAS 2023 recruitment.
Today, Rohini Gurjar is an officer. Her story is not just about becoming an officer. It is a lesson for all of us. She faced a mountain of sorrows, one after another but she never let it break her. She kept rising, every single time.
