Indian captain Rohit Sharma has set an unwanted record by losing 11 consecutive tosses in One Day Internationals (ODIs). On Tuesday (March 4), Team India extended its streak to 14 consecutive toss losses, the longest streak in ODIs. Interestingly, it began against Australia only in Ahmedabad when the two sides met in the ODI World Cup final.

Rohit Sharma's latest setback came during India's semifinal match against Australia in Dubai. Aussie skipper skipper Steven Smith decided to bat first on a hot and dry afternoon.

With this streak, Rohit Sharma now holds the third-longest sequence of consecutive toss losses by a captain in ODI history.

Most consecutive tosses lost by a captain in ODIs

12 - Brian Lara (West Indies, October 1998 to May 1999)

11 - Peter Borren (Netherlands, March 2011 to August 2013)

11*- Rohit Sharma (India, November 2023 to March 2025)

Rohit Sharma had a wry smile after losing the toss and after that he went onto talk with head coach Gautam Gambhir. He also said it was good to lose the toss as he was stuck in two minds.

"I was prepared to do both. When you're in two minds, it's better to lose the toss. We've played three games here and each time it had something different in it. You can't really say this is how the pitch is going to play. The pitch keeps changing its nature. At the end of the day, you have to play good cricket and that's what we are focused on. We've played good cricket in all three games and that's what we'll look to do now," said Rohit after losing another toss.

Australia made two changes from their previous match playing XI, bringing in Cooper Connolly for injured Matthews Short and Tanveer Sangha for Spencer Johnson.

India fielded the same playing XI of their previous match.

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy.

Australia: Steven Smith (c), Cooper Connolly, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (wk), Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Tanveer Sangha. PTI ATK PDS PDS
