This day marks the birth of Goddess Sita, and it holds significant importance for married women who seek blessings for their husband's long life and a harmonious married life. Sita Navami, also known as Janaki Navami, is observed annually on the ninth day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh.

Significance of Sita Navami

Sita Navami is celebrated to honor the birth of Goddess Sita, who is revered as an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Married women, or suhaagins, observe a fast and perform various rituals to ensure their husband's longevity and the happiness of their marital life. The festival also involves performing certain special measures, which are believed to enhance the blessings received.

Special Measures to Follow on Sita Navami

For those experiencing frequent disagreements or misunderstandings with their spouses, it is advised to recite the Sita Chalisa on Sita Navami. This devotional act is believed to resolve differences and strengthen the bond of love and understanding between husband and wife.

  1. Feed Sweet Food to Black Ants

On this day, feeding sweet food to black ants is considered highly auspicious. Additionally, offering kheer (a sweet rice pudding) to Mother Sita and distributing it as prasad among family and friends is believed to help alleviate financial troubles and bring overall happiness to the household.

2. Perform Land Worship

King Janak discovered Goddess Sita while plowing the land, highlighting the significance of land worship (bhumi pujan) on Sita Navami. Performing bhumi pujan and praising both Mother Earth and Mother Sita is believed to fulfill desires and bring prosperity.

3. Chant the Special Mantra

Reciting the mantra "Gram Greem Groom Sah Shukraya Namah" 108 times on Sita Navami is said to enhance love and respect between husband and wife. This practice fosters a deeper emotional connection and mutual respect in the marital relationship.
Rituals and Observances

  • Early Morning Bath: Start the day with an early morning bath, preferably in a river or pond, as it is considered auspicious.
  • Chant Mantras: Devote time to chanting the Rama Raksha Stotra, Sita Stuti, or other devotional mantras dedicated to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita.
  • Perform Aarti: Conduct aarti, a ritual involving lighted lamps, as a mark of respect and devotion to the deities.
  • Fasting: Observe a fast, consuming only sattvic (pure) foods such as fruits, milk, and dry fruits.
  • Puja and Prayers: Perform puja and recite prayers to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, offering flowers, fruits, and sweets as part of the rituals.
