A woman’s covert video, in which she body-shamed a bike taxi driver while he waited for her, has ignited widespread condemnation online. She recorded him in secret from behind a curtain, mocking his appearance and cancelling the ride because of his size.
The footage, shared on Instagram by user Karsimran Kaur Mattu, quickly accumulated nearly two million views. In it, Mattu is seen giggling while filming the driver, hiding her camera behind a curtain. She proceeds to taunt him, saying she would have to cancel the ride due to his body shape.
“I booked a bike ride, and look at the driver who has arrived. I am making this video hiding here so that he doesn’t get offended. But, main kahan baithungi? (Where am I supposed to sit?) Majburan cancel karni padd gyi (I had to cancel the ride),” she says, laughing.
Social media users swiftly denounced the video, criticising the woman's decision to exploit and humiliate someone who was simply doing his job.
A comment posted by one viewer read: “She thinks that shaming a hardworking, honest man is fine. She could have simply cancelled the ride, but she chose to mock him in front of millions.”
Another user questioned her logic: “If you need that much comfort, why not book a car? Why choose a bike if you’re going to mock the person riding it?”
Others expressed sharper disappointment over the absence of empathy: “It’s truly disheartening to see someone make an effort to humiliate a person just doing his job. She could have cancelled the ride quietly. Instead, she made it content.”
A user commented, "There’s enough space to sit on a bike. But no, people want to make fun of someone’s body and livelihood under the garb of personal freedom."
