Samsonite, renowned for its luggage, executed an extraordinary test of durability by launching its Proxis Global Carry-on Spinner to an altitude of 130,000 feet. This high-profile experiment not only demonstrated the suitcase's resilience but also resulted in captivating footage of the event, according to Travel + Leisure.

Retailing at $425 (approximately Rs 35,735), the Proxis endured extreme conditions, including temperatures plunging to -85°F. Upon its descent, the suitcase employed a self-deploying parachute system to ensure a controlled landing, as it returned to Earth, landing wheels first.

The test was conducted in collaboration with Sent Into Space, a marketing agency that specialises in launching products to test their durability under extreme conditions. The Proxis, claimed to be Samsonite’s lightest and toughest model, weighs just 4.6 pounds and features an outer shell made of Roxkin. This innovative material is characterised as recyclable, multilayered, and highly responsive, offering a notable balance between strength and lightness.

Ulliyada Bopanna, Vice President of Design and Innovation at Samsonite, highlighted the bag's unique attributes, stating, “It’s very strong but extremely lightweight, and in that weight-to-strength ratio is where the resilience comes from.”

The instructions from Samsonite to Sent Into Space were explicit and daring. Dr. Chris Rose, Head of Projects and Business Development at Sent Into Space, noted the company’s request to “slam” the suitcase “into a mountain.” He expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I’m glad we could find that mountain for them because the footage speaks for itself.”

Sent Into Space has a history of testing various products, from kitchen blenders to toys, making this collaboration a noteworthy addition to their portfolio.
