A hedge fund billionaire who tried to blame US President Joe Biden for his ‘inflated’ room service bill at a swanky hotel received a reality check from social media. Kyle Bass shared a picture of his receipt after buying breakfast at an unnamed New York City hotel, which internet sleuths later declared to be the five-star Carlyle Hotel.

Bass paid $85 for a tray of waffles, “heritage bacon,” orange juice and Diet Coke which were delivered to his room.

In his X post, the founder of Hayman Capital Management blamed US President Joe Biden, Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and the Federal Reserve for his $85 bill. “Terrible Inflation milestone reached – My first $85 breakfast for one at a NYC hotel. After signing this bill, I have decided NEVER AGAIN,” he tweeted.

Bass was summarily blasted by social media users who wondered why the billionaire expected to pay anything less at a five-star hotel where rooms start at $954 a night minimum.

“This isn't inflation, this is just what things cost at expensive hotels, man. You can walk outside and get a Diet Coke for $1.50 from a food cart,” X user Heidi Moore commented.

“You ordered room service in a 5 star Manhattan hotel. What were you expecting?” asked Michael Angelucci.

“I generally enjoy reading your posts, but complaining about inflation when ordering a breakfast at a New York City hotel is a little bit much. Your knew going in that it was going to be at least twice as much as breakfast anywhere else, but you did it and added a Coke as well,” another X user said.

Kyle Bass said the amount of hate he received over the post was “unexpected”.

“I ordered without having a menu (while on a call) and was appalled when the bill came. I grew up lower middle class…graduated college dirt poor…and appreciate each meal to this day. The hate here was unexpected. Many of the accounts are Chinese disinformation accounts that smelled blood in the water. One tweet reply sent from my account was a fraud. I appreciate your comment,” the billionaire explained in his defence.
