Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy and author-philanthropist Sudha Murty became grandparents again last week after their son Rohan Murty and wife Aparna Krishnan welcomed a baby boy. The newborn is the third grandchild of the Murthys who are grandparents to the two daughters of Akshata Murty.
Moneycontrol has learnt that the baby was born on November 10 in Bengaluru. Both mother and son are reportedly doing well.
The baby has been named Ekagrah, a Sanskrit word that means unwavering focus and determination. The family was reportedly inspired by Arjuna's “ekagrah” in the Mahabharata.
The name also appears in the Bhagavad Gita’s sixth chapter, which focuses on yoga and meditation as means towards self-realisation.
Rohan Murty, 40, is a computer scientist-turned-entrepreneur with a PhD from Harvard University and an undergraduate degree from Cornell University. He is the founder of Soroco, a data-based software firm that helps convert data into meaningful information that will help organisations address broken patterns of work across teams.
Aparna Krishnan was General Manager, Operations at Soroco for a little over four years. She's currently heading Murty Media which has produced "Story Time with Sudha Amma", a series of animated shows on YouTube, adapted from Sudha Murty’s books for children.
The couple got married in 2019. The wedding in Bengaluru was attended by the close family and friends of both the families, including Infosys co-founders Nandan Nilekani, Krish Gopalakrishnan, SD Shibulal and K Dinesh, and Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.
Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty’s two other grandchildren are Krishna and Anoushka, daughters of Akshata Murty and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Sudha Murty has often spoken fondly of the two young girls and has even dedicated her recent books for children to them.
