A Delhi resident, Deepak Gosain, recently expressed his frustration after receiving an unexpectedly high parking bill of Rs 5,770 at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Gosain had parked his vehicle at the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility of Terminal 3 on August 17, only to return on August 26 and find the significant charge. The bill included Rs 4,889.83 in parking fees and an additional Rs 880.17 as GST, a sum that left him shocked.
Gosain took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his ordeal, pointing out the exorbitant nature of the charges. He noted that the parking fee was higher than the cost of a round-trip flight between Delhi and Lucknow, with fares as low as Rs 2836. Gosain's situation soon sparked a discussion among travellers about the unexpectedly high parking costs at Delhi airport.
The financial shock, however, was not the only issue. Upon returning to his car, Gosain found that his vehicle had suffered significant damage. The car's gate lock was broken, and it bore multiple scratches. Despite trying to raise these concerns with the parking facility's staff, Gosain was met with indifference, as they had already processed his payment and were unhelpful in addressing his complaint.
The parking rates at Terminal 3, as per the airport’s policy, are structured to increase the longer a vehicle remains. The charges begin at Rs 120 for the first 30 minutes, rising to Rs 170 for the subsequent 30 minutes. After that, the rate is Rs 100 per hour for up to five hours, followed by a flat rate of Rs 600 per 24-hour period thereafter. In Gosain's case, his car had been parked for a total of nine days, accumulating the hefty bill.
Meanwhile, Deepak Gosain's post has now been deleted on X.
