An Indian-origin Wall Street analyst has been fired for his anti-Semitic outburst in the US. Kurush Mistry was dismissed by the US commodities trading house where he had worked for nearly a decade after he was filmed yelling ‘Go back to your country’ at a Jewish-American man.
Journalist Andy Ngo shared a clip which shows Mistry and his partner, Shailja Gupta, papering over some flyers stuck on a lamppost. The Indian couple was seen holding posters that read “Israel is an apartheid state” and “Occupiers face consequences”.
When approached by the Jewish-American man who asked Mistry: “What's your name sir? You must be very proud,” both Gupta and Mistry made obscene hand gestures at him.
“Very proud,” Mistry replied, and then held up a poster which read ‘Israel is an apartheid state and commits genocide.’
Meanwhile, Gupta also whipped out her phone to film the encounter and was heard telling the Jewish-American man to “f--k off”.
The argument escalated as Mistry told the man “Go back to your country.”
“I’m an American. I’m an American Jew,” the man responded, to which Gupta retorted: “I am also a f---g American, darling … Me too, so then you f--k off as well.” Later in the video, Gupta also called Israelis “rapists”.
Freepoint Commodities, the organisation where Mistry worked, released a statement saying it was “aware of the recent antisemitic incident reported on social media, and the individual involved is no longer associated with Freepoint.”
“We welcome the diversity of views and opinions held by our employees, but Freepoint does not tolerate discrimination and hate speech directed against any group,” the organisation said in its statement.
According to Kurush Mistry’s LinkedIn profile, he had worked at Freepoint Commodities for nine years. Mistry is a graduate of IIM-Ahmedabad who has earlier worked at Morgan Stanley, Barclays and Lehman Brothers.
