IIHS launches course on funding social ventures

Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), a national education institution, has announced a short course on ‘Raising Funding for Social Ventures’. The course will be held at the IIHS City Campus, Bangalore from 14 to 16 February. The course aims to address challenges that social entrepreneurs face while seeking funding, in order to grow and scale their ventures.The course sessions will help entrepreneurs identify and scope new funding avenues and understand the nuances of impact investing criteria, specifically from an investee perspective. Learners will gain a better understanding of key elements that investors look for while investing in social enterprises. They will also learn how to tailor business plans and adopt strategies that appeal to such investors, while still retaining the essence of the business.These sessions will focus on funding sources, investment parameters, and fundamentals of venture finance, legal aspects of starting and running social enterprises, and employing effective tools to qualify for funding. Learners will also have an opportunity to interact with industry experts such as impact investors from Unitus and Aavishkar, as part of panels that will supplement theory and practical sessions. In addition, social entrepreneurs will share hands-on experiences with regard to seeking funding.The lead faculty for the programme is Radhika Meenakshi Shankar, an experienced management consultant and trainer with more than two decades of academic and practice experience in entrepreneurship and finance. Shankar has successfully conducted more than 35 training programmes for potential and established entrepreneurs. She is a certified mentor with the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) and the Indian School of Business, and faculty advisor at IIT Kanpur. Shankar will be supported by A Suryanarayanan, Head of Operations at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements who, in an earlier engagement, was the Chief Operating Officer of the NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) at IIM Bangalore. In addition, Raghavendra Raju, Head of Strategic Outreach at IIHS and Aruna Raman, Research Associate at IIHS will also conduct sessions.The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) is a national education institution committed to the equitable, sustainable and efficient transformation of Indian settlements.
