A gynaecologist in southern China has sparked widespread amusement online when he offered an unconventional advice to women battling low energy and blood deficiencies: look at muscular men. A video of Dr He Zhenye's lighthearted yet seemingly serious advice is now viral on social media.
The doctor works at a top-tier public hospital in Shenzhen, southern China, and has more than 1.3 lakh followers on his Chinese online platform where he usually shares insights on women's health. In a recent video, he recommended that "women should look at muscular men more often to relieve stress," South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported.
According to him, women suffering from "qi" (vital energy) and blood deficiencies often experience diminished moods and heightened stress levels. To help regulate their physical and mental state, he suggests "visual pleasure" as a remedy. The doctor explained that it can trigger dopamine production in the brain, a natural mood booster that helps alleviate stress. "Avoid falling in love too often. Watch more muscular men instead," Dr He says in the video. "When your qi and blood are deficient, you are often too lethargic, too tired to talk, and your skin may look dull. You might also experience dizziness and insomnia. That does not bring the right conditions for romance."
He contrasted this with the proposed remedy: "However, watching muscular men makes things different. Seeing something beautiful activates the brain’s reward system and releases dopamine, making us feel happier."
Dr He also cited studies that suggest visual pleasure can improve mood and reduce stress, particularly for women struggling with poor sleep or fatigue from overwork. "So, ladies with qi and blood deficiency, scroll freely and enjoy. Relax your mind and restore your energy. For your health, indulge a little!" he concluded.
