Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar scripted history on Sunday when she became the first Indian to win gold at the Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The 30-year-old's achievement was recognised by industrialist Anand Mahindra on Monday, who referred to the Tripura athlete speaking about how the love for the sport had kept her going and a few months later, she had created history.
"And more #MondayMotivation. Just back in March, Dipa Karmakar
was talking about her injury & the hurdles she had to cross. It was the love for the sport, she said, which keeps her going."
"And yesterday she became the 1st gymnast to win at the prestigious Asian championship, topping the podium in women's vault. Keep Rising, Dipa," Mahindra wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

The 30-year-old secured an average of 13.566 in the vault final on the last day of competitions in Uzbekistan's capital city and clinched the yellow metal. North Koreans Kim Son Hyang (13.466) and Jo Kyong Byol (12.966) grabbed the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Karmakar, who had finished fourth in the vault final at the 2016 Rio Olympics, had won a bronze medal in the same event in the 2015 edition.
Karmakar also achieved another rare feat, a gold medal in vault at the 2018 FIG World Cup in Mersin, Turkiye, becoming the first Indian to ever win a yellow metal at a global gymnastics event.
