Visakhapatnam, popularly known as Vizag, is set to scale new heights—literally. India’s longest glass skywalk bridge is slated to open atop the scenic Kailasagiri Hills next week, offering breathtaking views of the Bay of Bengal, the city skyline, and the Eastern Ghats.
And this exciting new addition to Vizag has already caught the attention of industrialist Anand Mahindra. The business tycoon took to his X account to share a stunning video of the skywalk on a rainy day, calling it “absolutely stunning.”
Anand Mahindra in Awe of Vizag’s New Glass Skywalk
Mahindra, who often highlights new infrastructural developments across India, shared his admiration for India’s highest and longest glass skywalk bridge, expressing amazement at the structure perched over the Kailasagiri Hills. In his post, he noted that the skywalk is already being touted as one of the tallest of its kind in the world, with a vertical drop of 262 metres.
“Unsurprisingly, China still holds the global record for skywalk height and length, with the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge placed 300 metres above ground and stretching 430 metres long. But Vizag’s version isn’t far behind with a vertical drop of 262 metres,” Mahindra tweeted.
Despite being in awe of the architectural marvel, Mahindra humorously admitted that he has no plans to visit it in person. “Heights and I have a complicated relationship,” he added.

A Thrilling Walk Above Vizag
Stretching 55 metres, the Kailasagiri glass skywalk combines adventure with breathtaking scenery. Located near the iconic Titanic viewpoint, the bridge sits 862 feet above the ground and 1,000 feet above sea level, giving visitors an unforgettable bird’s-eye view of the city, coast, and hills.
While China still holds the global record with the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge at 300 metres high and 430 metres long, Vizag’s skywalk isn’t far behind, with a vertical drop of 262 metres.
Built for Safety and Adventure
Constructed entirely with German-made tempered laminated glass and steel, the bridge has three 40 mm-thick glass layers supported by 40 tonnes of steel. It can withstand a load of 500 kg per square metre, allowing over 100 people at the end deck. Designed to resist winds up to 250 kmph, it is built with lessons from Cyclone Hudhud in mind.
For visitor safety, only 40 people will be allowed at a time, spending 5–10 minutes on the bridge. Entry fees are expected to be Rs 250– Rs 300 per person, making it accessible for both domestic and international tourists.
The Team Behind Vizag’s Glass Skywalk
The project is a public-private partnership (PPP) between SSM Shipping & Logistics of Vizag and Bharat Mata Ventures of Kerala, known for the Vagamon Glass Bridge. The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) also supports the project.
With a 55-metre span, the Vizag skywalk surpasses Vagamon’s 38-metre bridge, becoming India’s longest hanging glass path. It’s expected to be a major tourist hotspot, attracting adventure seekers, photographers, and nature lovers alike.
Features and Experience
Visitors can enjoy:
1.Panoramic views of the Bay of Bengal on one side.
2. Sweeping vistas of Vizag city and the Eastern Ghats on the other.
3. Ideal photo opportunities, moments of calm, or adrenaline-filled adventure.
The bridge will feature Tricolour-themed illumination at night, currently pending installation. A final load test is also awaited before the official inauguration, scheduled for either next week or later this month.
Why You Must Visit
The Kailasagiri skywalk glass bridge is more than an engineering marvel; it’s set to become a symbol of Indian tourism innovation. With its combination of safety, adventure, and stunning views, it is sure to be a top attraction in Visakhapatnam tourism. As Anand Mahindra put it, it’s “absolutely stunning”—soon visitors from across India and the world will get to experience it for themselves.
