Mercedes Benz has announced local assembly of its flagship model, the S-Class at its plant in Chakan, Pune. This move comes with the increased demand that Mercedes is getting for the top spec S500 trim which is seeing three month waiting periods. It is the three pointed star's most powerful luxury offering here with a 459PS petrol V8 motor under the hood. The new S-Class is available at Rs 1.36 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai). At the time of its launch in January earlier this year, the S-Class which was a CBU, was priced at Rs 1.57 crore. Mercedes is also looking at bringing in the much affordable S350CDI to the Indian markets soon.

The manufacturer has also started Chauffeur Training Program which is a 21 module multi-lingual course for the drivers of the S-Class.
