Jee Main

Joint Entrance Examination JEE (Main) or JEE Main is an “efficient, transparent and international standards test in order to assess the competency of candidates for admissions to premier higher education institutions”, as per the National Testing Agency (NTA) webpage. Since 2019, the NTA has responsibility of conducting the JEE Main, designated by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (erstwhile Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. JEE Main comprises two papers – Paper1 and JEE Advanced, where the latter is for admissions to the Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) only. While Paper1 is for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (such as BE or B Tech) at NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), Institutions or Universities funded or recognised by state governments. In 2021, JEE Main was conducted in multiple sessions (February/March/April/May 2021) for admissions in the next academic session. This thus allowed candidates multiple opportunities to improve their scores if they fail to give their best in the first attempt, without wasting their whole academic year. In first attempt, students will get first-hand experience of taking an exam and identify their mistakes for the next attempt. It was expected to reduce the chances of dropping a year and droppers would not have to waste a full year. Also for those who missed the exam due to reasons beyond their control, such students can also attempt the papers without a gap year. Notably, a student’s best of the 2021 NTA Scores will be considered for preparation of Merit List/ Ranking. More
