Aprilia RS 457: Unleashing Italian precision on Indian roads
The highly-anticipated Aprilia RS 457 has finally made its way to India. With bookings set to begin on December 15, the new super sport is set to take on the likes of already established players such as the KTM RC390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 400.
Renowned Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Aprilia has set the stage ablaze with the much-anticipated launch of its latest offering in the Indian two-wheeler market – the Aprilia RS 457. Unveiled a few months ago at the Indian MotoGP round and showcased with fervour, the RS 457 has finally made its way to Indian showrooms with a price tag of Rs 4.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). This fully-faired bike is not just another addition to the Aprilia line-up; it's the first bike entirely made in India at the brand's Baramati facility.

The Aprilia RS 457 draws inspiration from its larger sibling, the RS 660. Its distinctive appearance is marked by dual LED headlamps, a short visor, and clip-on handlebars that exude a sporty and aggressive aesthetic. The design language is sharp, imposing, and elevates the RS 457's road presence, making it a true head-turner on the streets.

Underneath the fairing, the RS 457 packs a punch with its liquid-cooled, 457cc, parallel-twin engine. What sets it apart is the unconventional 270-degree firing order, promising not only a robust performance but also a distinct and captivating exhaust note. With 48 hp on tap, the RS 457 is set to compete with the likes of the KTM RC 390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 400. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch, offering smooth gear shifts and enhanced control.

In the realm of technology, the RS 457 doesn't disappoint. Boasting a 5-inch TFT dash and backlit switchgear, the bike provides riders with a modern and intuitive interface. The digital instrument console comes equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, elevating the riding experience with seamless connectivity options. The RS 457 offers three riding modes – Eco, Rain, and Sport – catering to diverse riding preferences and conditions. The inclusion of a 3-stage traction control system and ABS further emphasises the focus on rider safety and control.
The chassis of the RS 457 mirrors the design of the larger RS 660, featuring an aluminium perimeter frame suspended by a USD fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Suspension is adjustable for preload at both ends, allowing riders to fine-tune their preferences for a personalised riding experience. Notably, the RS 457 is the first bike to roll on TVS Eurogrip Protorq Extreme tires from the factory, providing optimal grip and performance.

Priced at Rs 4.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra), the Aprilia RS 457 finds itself in a competitive position. While it surpasses the KTM RC 390 in terms of pricing, it remains more affordable than the Kawasaki Ninja 400, making it an attractive proposition for enthusiasts seeking a perfect blend of Italian craftsmanship and performance without breaking the bank.
