Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 25 (Friday) landed in Maldives a day after concluding the UK leg of his two-nation visit. His trip to the island nation came at the invitation of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and coincides with two significant milestones — the Maldives' 60th Independence Day and the 60th anniversary of India-Maldives diplomatic relations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Maldives is at the core of India's ‘Neighbourhood First’ and Mahasagar vision. "Our discussion covered several sectors, notably commercial and cultural linkages. We both agree that the India-Maldives friendship will always be bright and clear," PM Modi wrote. "India is honoured to work closely with the Maldives in areas such as housing, connectivity, infrastructure, defence, digital technology and more.
