Worli assembly constituency is one of the 288 seats of Maharashtra which goes to polls on November 20. Currently represented by Aaditya Thackeray from Shiv Sena (UBT), Worli is a part of Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency along with five other assembly constituencies - Shivadi, Byculla, Malabar Hill, Mumbadevi and Colaba.

Established in 1962, Worli is an unreserved constituency which is considered a Shiv Sena bastion.

According to Maharashtra Chief Election Commissioner, the Worli constituency will have 232 polling stations. Overall, more than 1 lakh polling stations will be set up across Maharashtra for the November 20 assembly elections.

Who are the key contenders?

The seat is set for a tight contest primarily between Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Aaditya Thackeray and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Milind Deora, who currently serves as Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has fielded Sandeep Deshpande.

Deora left the Congress in January 2024 and joined the Sena faction led by the Maharashtra CM.

Worli constituency: Past election results

In the 2019 assembly elections, Aaditya Thackeray emerged victorious from Worli constituency by defeating Suresh Mane, who contested on Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket. In the 2019 Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena candidate Aaditya Uddhav Thackeray won the Worli seat with a margin of over 67,000 votes.

As per Election Commission data, there were 2,69,003 voters in the Worli constituency during the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections. Worli recorded 47.58% voter turnout in 2019.

In 2014 as well, Shiv Sena dominated with Sunil Shinde defeating NCP's Sachin Ahir by a margin of over 23,000 votes.

The Congress had won the first three elections simultaneously - 1962, 1967 and 1972. The Communist Party of India snatch power from the grand old party in the 1978 Maharashtra assembly election. However, it is the Shiv Sena which has tasted success the most in Worli assembly constituency. From 1990 to 2004, the party has won all four consecutive assembly elections.

2024 Worli election & results dates

The Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) are constituents of the MVA along with the NCP (SP). The opposition bloc is locked in a close fight with the ruling Mahayuti front in the elections to the 288-member assembly on November 20. Votes will be counted three days later, on November 23.
